From first conversation to handover
Every project follows the same six steps, whether it is one kitchen or a whole home.

Our primary focus. We design, build and manage your whole project, so you deal with one team from the first sketch to the day you move in.
We start with your needs, wants and goals, then visit the site to understand the real challenges. Nothing is built until you have approved the 2D layouts and 3D renders, down to colours, sizes and shelving.

Examples from our projects
We began an NRI client's interiors at Mantri, Bangalore while she stayed on with her work in Singapore, then helped her find a tenant and handed the home over to them. For a client working with a leading bank in Bahrain, we renovated his entire home in T. Nagar, Chennai and handed it over ready.

Cabinetry
Cabinetry is one of the most important parts of an interior. We make every unit to last through changing times, and through the changing needs of the people who use it.
We build in waterproof plywood or HDHMR and achieve a range of finishes: laminate, acrylic, polish and veneer.
Every unit is customised to your needs, from the size and shelving pattern to the accessories that make the space more comfortable to live in. We work functionality first, then aesthetics, so that the product travels across eras.
We make wardrobes, study tables, TV units, kitchen top and bottom units, service area units, vanity units and shoe racks, along with custom display and feature units such as the butterfly bookshelf.

Pooja units
Every pooja unit is customised to the beliefs, usage and worship practices of the family. Some are contemporary, some are modular, and some are made entirely in solid wood with carved details that carry the traditional values the family wants to honour.
Watch our team make a custom rattan chair, from framing and hand-woven rattan to the final finish.
Custom furniture in solid teak and rosewood
Sofas, cots, centre tables and dining sets, made at our own factory in Chennai. Our teak is solid wood with its natural grain, never veneer.

One team instead of three
Most homes are built by a designer, a contractor and a carpenter who have never worked together. We are all three.

If yours is not here, message us and we will answer it on WhatsApp.
Ask on WhatsAppInteriors and process
What does K.A. Kutties Wood Crafts do?
We are a design-first company that puts comfort first. We design, build and install interiors for homes and offices in Chennai and beyond: complete turnkey interiors, modular kitchens, wardrobes, TV units and pooja units, solid teak furniture made to order, and renovation with civil work. Everything is planned and made by one team.
Do you handle design, civil work and carpentry together?
Yes. Design, civil work and carpentry are handled by one team and run as one project, so there is a single point of responsibility from the first sketch to handover. You do not have to coordinate a designer, a contractor and a carpenter separately.
Do you take up renovation on its own, without interiors?
We do not take up stand-alone renovation contracts without interiors. When a home needs civil changes, we carry them out alongside the design and carpentry as one turnkey scope.
How long has Kutties Wood Crafts been in business?
Kutties Wood Crafts has been designing and building furniture and interiors in Chennai since 1970. It was founded by K. Achuthan Kutty and is led today by Mr. C. Ramesh Kutty.
Do you make your own furniture?
Yes. The furniture and cabinetry we install is made at our own factory in Chennai, which is why we can control finish and quality and fit every piece to your home.
Which areas of Chennai do you work in?
We work across Chennai as a whole. Delivery and installation of furniture is available in Chennai.
Do you take up projects outside Chennai?
Yes. We have taken up projects outside Chennai, including in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Tell us where the property is and we will confirm whether we can take it on.
Can NRIs get their home done by you while living abroad?
Yes, and many of our clients do. We take a design-first approach: after an online meeting and your exact measurements, you see and approve the design before anything is built. We give you a tour of the space by video call, and a dedicated project management team sends you updates at every stage and ensures a smooth handover.
One client, based in Singapore, had us complete an apartment in Mantri, Bangalore and hand it over to the tenant. Another, working with a bank in Bahrain, had us renovate a home in T. Nagar. For clients abroad, time is money and comfort is what we sell.
How does a project start, and is the first consultation free?
A project starts with a conversation about your home, your needs and your budget. We offer a free consultation, and what it includes depends on the project and the client. Message us on WhatsApp or call, and we will tell you what to expect.
Will I see the design before work begins?
Yes. We prepare 2D layouts and 3D visuals of your spaces, and work begins only after you have approved them.
What are the steps from enquiry to handover?
Every project follows the same ten steps:
- Enquiry and first conversation
- Free consultation
- Site visit and measurements
- Design concept and 2D layout
- 3D visuals and your approval
- Quotation and payment schedule
- Procurement of materials
- Manufacturing and civil work
- Installation at your home, supervised by us
- Final quality check and handover
Can we stay in the house while the work is going on?
For a full-home project we advise against it. Dust, noise and restricted access slow the work and are uncomfortable for the family. For smaller jobs such as a single kitchen or wardrobe, it can often be managed. Tell us about your situation and we will advise.
Will Kutties supervise the work at my site?
Yes. For turnkey and project-managed interiors, our own team supervises the site, so civil work, electrical and plumbing coordination, and carpentry are checked against the approved design.
Cabinets and cost
How is the cost of an interior project decided?
Every project is priced unit by unit, from the design you approve. We do not quote a standard rate per square foot, because two homes with the same area can need very different work. As a guide, turnkey interiors for a 2BHK normally start from ₹8 lakh.
What decides the cost of a wardrobe or kitchen?
Mainly the material and the finish. Take a wardrobe: a laminate finish costs less than teak veneer with a melamine polish. A special texture or an acrylic finish raises the cost further, and solid teak with a polished finish is the highest of the four. The size, the fittings and the internal layout also change the price. We help you choose the finish that suits both the room and your budget.
What are your cabinets made of?
We build cabinets in waterproof plywood or HDHMR, so they stand up to Chennai's humidity and to kitchen and bathroom use. Finishes include laminate, acrylic, polish and veneer. Every unit is customised to your needs, from the size and shelving pattern to the accessories that make the space comfortable to live in.
When do I pay, and how is payment divided?
The payment schedule is set after we understand your needs, wants and goals and complete a site visit. It is agreed in writing before work begins.
Custom furniture
Do you make furniture in solid teak?
Yes. We make furniture in solid teak with its natural grain visible, including cots, chairs, doors and carved pieces.
When do you take up custom furniture orders?
We take up custom orders for a complete home, or for orders of more than ten pieces.
How long does custom furniture take?
Made-to-order furniture usually takes 5 to 6 weeks. We deliver and install within Chennai.
Do you repair furniture?
We repair furniture that we have made. We do not take up repairs of furniture made by others.
